The King trailer: Timothée Chalamet and Robert Pattinson star in this historical drama based on the life of King Henry V

Netflix has released the trailer for its latest historical drama The King. The film stars Timothée Chalamet as English monarch King Henry V. The King is loosely based on William Shakespeare’s plays Henry IV and Henry V. Written and directed by David Michôd and Joel Edgerton, the film will release in select theatres but will premiere on Netflix this fall.

The King is set in the latter stages of the Hundred Years’ War and the trailer showcases the Siege of Harfleur and the Battle of Agincourt. The film showcases Hal (Chalamet) a reluctant and wayward heir to the English throne. He is seen living amongst the people turning his back on the royal life. But when his tyrannical father dies he is crowned King and is forced to return to the life he had previously tried to escape from. According to the custom, he is crowned Henry V. As King he must navigate through palace politics, war, chaos and also try to savour the relationship with his best friend, an ‘aging alcoholic knight’ played by Edgerton.
