Where we left it…

Robb Stark is dead. Lannisters have a strong hold over Westeros. Roose Bolton is named the Warden of the North while Walder Frey stands strong in the Riverlands, although the castle is still with the Tullys. Both Frey and Bolton were Stark bannermen who betrayed Robb and the House of Stark at the Red Wedding.

Joffrey is to wed Margaery as per their negotiation and Cersei fears exactly that. But the preparations for the Royal Wedding move along smoothly as people from other houses arrive at King’s Landing for the celebrations.

The wildlings reinforce their army with the Thenns to attack Castle Black. Jon Snow is released by Master Aemon upon his honest confession about his activities with the Wildlings. He also proposed to take strict actions against the group of mutineers residing at Craster’s home, in order to preserve the defenses of Castle Black and avoid information leak to Mance’s army.

Arya and the Hound recover Arya’s sword, the Needle from Polliver, a Night’s Watch recruit who had taken the Needle from the Stark girl back in Harrenhal, by killing him and his men.

Daenerys marches to the city of Mareen, the last one of the three slave cities, to expand her army and power. But while she’s getting closer to her goal, she is also disturbed as her dragons were becoming less tame with each passing day.

The Royal Wedding

Tyrion welcomes Oberyn Martell from House of Dorne, who was there to attend the festivities, representing his brother Prince Doran, with his lover, Ellaria Sand. He quickly makes it clear to Tyrion that he’s here only to avenge his sister Elia’s death, in which the Lannisters were involved.

Tyrion takes this chance to send Shae, his lover from before he married Sansa, away to Pentos for her safety. Meanwhile, Jaime starts practicing the sword with the help of Bronn, Tyrion’s personal guard.

The wedding is a grand affair. At the feast, Joffrey insults Tyrion on a couple occasions which raises the heat of the atmosphere. The tension keeps growing, until Joffrey succumbs to death from poisoned wine, that Tyrion had poured for him. *internal screams*

Struck by grief, Cersei commands to arrest Tyrion. Taking advantage of the chaos, Ser Dentos, a former knight beckons Sansa to leave King’s Landing immediately for her survival.

The Aftermath of Joffrey’s death

Tommen gets crowned as the King. Olenna leaves for Highgarden, not before she implies to Margaery of her involvement in Joffrey’s murder. She also tells her granddaughter to seduce Tommen before Cersei has any power over the situation. Let the chase begin!

On the flip side, Tywin enlists Oberyn and Mace Tyrell, Margaery’s father, as his fellow judges for Tyrion’s impending trial. Tyrion picks Jaime as his witness, who is convinced that Tyrion is innocent. When Jaime talks to Cersei about the same, who is adamant about Tyrion’s crime, she orders Jaime to hunt Sansa and kill her. Jaime instead, finds Brienne and tasks her of finding and protecting Sansa. He also gives her his Valyrian sword and assigns Poddrick as her squire.

Cersei meets Margaery, Tywin and Oberyn in order to persuade them against Tyrion in the trial. Such manipulation, much wow!

Lord Baelish, who hired Ser Dantos, kills him and smuggles Sansa out of King’s Landing. He takes her to Eerie, where she will stay under the disguise of his niece while he gets married to her aunt, Lysa.

The city of Mareen

Daenerys lays siege to Meereen amidst a slave-revolt and seeks revenge for the slaves by nailing the masters on posts. After Ser Jorah tells her about the fallback of slaves in Astaphor and Yunkai, Daenerys decides to delay her march to Westeros in order to establish peace in Mareen, by pronouncing herself as the Queen.

The expeditions in the North

To get rid of Jon, some of the Crow leaders conspire to allow him to lead the expedition against the mutineers at Craster’s home. The mutineers have now captured Bran’s party and have forced him to reveal his identity. Jon’s team attacks the camp. Locke attempts to kidnap Bran in the confusion but is killed by Hodor, warged into by Bran. Bran and his company then continue their trek north while Jon's party kills all of the mutineers and burns down Craster's Keep.

The Shift

Daenerys tries to take hold of Mareen by listening to the complaints of her subjects, including a nobleman who lost his goats to the hands of her uncontrollable dragons.

Roose Bolton returns to Dreadfort, where he criticizes his bastard son, Ramsey of brutalizing Theon into a servient persona called ‘Reek’. Yara leads an attack in an effort to rescue Theon, who refuses to come with her, forcing her to escape. Ramsay rewards Theon for being obedient and, in order to take Moat Cailin, tasks him to pretend to be ‘Theon’ instead of ‘Reek’. We need a minute…

Lord Baelish gets pressurized to wed Lysa the very day they reach the Eerie. It is also revealed that the duo were involved in framing the Lannisters for Lysa’s former husband and King, Jon Arryn’s death. Later, Lysa catches Baelish and Sansa kissing, after which she threatens to push Sansa out of the Moon Door. But Baelish intervenes and pushes Lysa out instead, killing her in course.

On King’s road, the Hound catches Arya practicing her sword skills and makes fun of her while Brienne learns that Poddrick has no use as a squire but still respects him for killing a kingsguard to save Tyrion, his former lord.

Davos manages to convince the Iron Bank to back Stannis while also resecuring Salladhor Saan and his pirates to Stannis' cause.

In King’s Landing, Tyrion is brought to trial for Joffrey's murder. However, all of the witnesses brought in testify against him, including his former lover, Shae, who he had sent off to Pentos. Angry, hurt and humiliated by the testimonies, Tyrion demands for trial by combat.

The twist

The Wildlings attack Castle Black from both sides. One giant breaks the tunnel and breaches the Wall when five rangers kill him, but at the cost of their own lives. Ser Alliser Thorne leaves Jason Slynt in charge, who proves to be very incompetent and is tricked to leave the spot, leaving Jon in the lead. Ygritte spots Jon, but is killed by another ranger. Jon holds her in his arms as she dies. Is this what heartbreak feels like? *sobs*

With the help of Jon’s direwolf, Ghost, the ground level of Castle black is secured and Tormund is arrested. The wall climbers are obliterated by a massive scythe launched by the Watch. Jon reckons that the wildlings will retreat, but not permanently. Seeing no other choice, Jon decides to go beyond the Wall to find and kill Mance Rayder.

Ramsey pressurizes Theon to get the Ironborn to surrender Moat Callin. They surrender with the hopes of returning home safely, but are killed by Ramsey’s men. As a reward, Roose gives Ramsey his last name, making him Ramsey Bolton.

Sansa defends Lord Baelish at an investigation surrounding her aunt Lysa’s death. About the same time, Arya and the Hound arrive at the Vale and are informed of Lysa’s death, which beckons them to get back on the road. Just then, they have a run-in with Brienne and Poddrick and things get a little serious, leading to the Hound being critically wounded.

Arya hides from Brienne and Poddrick, making them leave the Hound to die while they move along the road. When alone, Arya goes to see the Hound’s condition, who is begging her to kill him. Arya decides against it and flees from the Vale.

In King’s Landing, Oberyn represents Tyrion against Gregor Clegane a.k.a. the Mountain, the Hound’s brother. Oberyn had the upper hand, until he let his guard down and forced the Mountain to admit to his crimes, of raping and murdering his sister Elia. The Mountain took this opportunity and crushed Oberyn, killing him instantly, after which he admitted to all the crimes. As a result, Tyrion was sentenced to death by his own father, Tywin Lannister.

Where it all ended…

Jaime plots with Varys to Tyrion escape King’s Landing, not before he kills Tywin and strangles his former lover, Shae who he found in his father’s bed.

.

Jon negotiation with Mance gets interrupted when Stannis and his fleet overrun the Wildling’s camp. Snow suggests to take Mance as a prisoner, after which they all return to Castle Black.

Now alone on her journey, Arya catches a ship to Bravos after showing the coin that Jaqen H'ghar had given her, with an intention to reunite with him.

Bran's party comes upon the large heart tree from his visions but is attacked by skeletal beasts, who kill Jojen. The others are saved by a child, who takes them inside the cave to the three-eyed raven, who is revealed to be an old man.

Daenerys learns of Ser Jorah’s spying and exiles him. One day, she received the charred pieces of a citizen’s daughter, who was burned by Drogon. In consequence and precaution, Daenerys chains her other two dragons in the catacombs. Can you hear it…that’s the sound of our hearts breaking!
