This was never our intention, healthy skin is beautiful skin: Johnson & Johnson to stop selling its fairness products amidst BLM-led racial debates

Amidst the ongoing Black Lives Matter moment triggered by the killing of African-American man George Floyd, many beauty businesses are under the fire for promoting their fairness products. Not just the United States of America, this racial debate has been picked up in India as well as people have been calling out the fairness creams by quirky illustrations and blatant tweets.

Owing to this global racial debate, Johnson & Johnson company has planned to stop its fairness products line.

Its renowned fairness product line, Clean and Clear will neither be produced nor shipped, although one would find them on the shelves until the stocks run out. "Conversations over the past few weeks highlighted that some product names or claims on our dark spot reducer products represent fairness or white as better than your own unique skin tone. This was never our intention – healthy skin is beautiful skin”, the company stated as mentioned by leading daily, Live Mint.

It was reported that the company would drop its Neutrogena Fairness line earlier this month but it looks like J&J has some other plans.

Now that’s a start. Will other companies follow the suit? What are your thoughts on this?
