Punjabi cinema’s beloved comedian Jaswinder Bhalla passes away at 65

Popular comedian of Punjabi cinema Jaswinder Bhalla passed away on the morning of 22 August. 65-year-old Bhalla was admitted to Fortis Hospital in Mohali for the last few days, where he breathed his last. The news of his demise has sent a wave of mourning across the Punjab film industry.

Bhalla's funeral ceremony will be held on August 23 at 12 noon at the crematorium in Balongi, Mohali. Fellow actors, fans and people from the industry have paid emotional tributes on social media. Jaswinder Bhalla ruled millions of hearts with his comic acting. In the 1980s and 1990s, he gained immense popularity with a comedy series called ‘Chankta’ and comedy albums. Later, he made his mark in Punjabi films and took the industry to new heights.

In films, he mostly appeared in supporting comic roles and added a special color to every story with his witty performance and sarcasm. His superhit films include Carry On Jatta (2012), Carry On Jatta 2 (2018), Jatt and Juliet, Mr. and Mrs. 420, Yaar Anmule (2011) and Mundayya To Bachke Rahin. He won the hearts of the audience by playing the character of Advocate Dhillon* in the Carry On Jatta series.

With his demise, Punjabi cinema has lost a star who gave people lifelong happiness through laughter and satire. His contribution will always be remembered.
