Imtiaz Ali's film Rockstar is considered one of the best films of his career. This musical romantic drama film released in 2011 achieved tremendous success at the box office and was included in the highest grossing films of the year. While Ranbir Kapoor became the hero of the film, Nargis Fakhri made her Bollywood debut with this film.

However, very few people know that Imtiaz Ali's first choice for this film was Kareena Kapoor. Impressed by Kareena's performance in Jab We Met, Imtiaz had decided to make her the heroine. But this could not be possible. On this, Ranbir Kapoor also said that he wanted to work with Kareena, because she is a very hardworking and dedicated actress. But, due to their brother-sister- like relationship, they did not get a chance to do this film together. Ranbir also said that he regrets this and hoped that they will work together in some other film in the future.

Even though Kareena could not be a part of this film, Ranbir definitely got the opportunity to work with his grandfather Shammi Kapoor. Shammi Kapoor played the role of Ustad Jameel Khan in the film, and this was one of his last films.

Apart from Ranbir and Nargis, actors like Aditi Rao Hydari, Piyush Mishra and Kumud Mishra also played important roles in the film. The music of Rockstar was given by A.R. Rahman, which portrayed the story and emotions more deeply. Due to excellent direction, strong acting and memorable music, this film is still alive in the hearts of the audience.
