After wowing audiences with his compelling 35-minute monologue in theatre veteran Feroz Abbas Khan’s play ‘Letters of Suresh’ last year, Rajkumar Hirani’s son Vir Hirani is set to make his Bollywood debut in a feature film. Casting for the female lead is underway. Production will begin in February 2026
PeepingMoon.com has learned it will be a love story produced by Hansal Mehta’s True Story Films. Renowned Malayalam filmmaker Lijo Jose Pellissery will direct it, marking his debut in Hindi cinema. He is best known for groundbreaking films like ‘Angamaly Diaries’ (2017) and ‘Jallikattu’ (2019) which were celebrated for their bold storytelling and cinematic innovation. Adding to the project’s prestige, Oscar winning composer A.R. Rahman has been roped in to create the film’s music.
A graduate of London’s prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), Vir Hirani is already making his Bollywood debut in a starring role alongside Arshad Warsi and Vikrant Massey with his father Rajkumar Hirani’s maiden Jio Hotstar series, ‘Pritam Pedro.’ The Hansal Mehta production will mark his official theatrical film debut, introducing him to the grandeur of the big screen.
Hansal Mehta is building a slate of theatrical and streaming projects as producer with Vir Hirani’s debut film being one of the key projects. On the directorial front, Hansal Mehta has ‘Gandhi,’ an ambitious web series on Mahatma Gandhi, which premiered at this year's Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). He is also directing a high-stakes business drama series for Netflix, starring Anil Kapoor and Vijay Varma in the leads.
