Netflix India is adding another star-packed feature film to its upcoming robust lineup. PeepingMoon.com has learned that Sunny Deol and Akshaye Khanna will headline a commercial thriller for Netflix slated for a 2026 premiere.
While we had already informed you about Sunny’s Netflix venture, Akshaye recently joined the cast and will play a parallel lead. The film will be directed by Siddharth P. Malhotra, best known for ‘We Are Family’ (2010), ‘Hichki’ (2018), and ‘Maharaj’. This large-scale action thriller is believed to be a quickie project for Malhotra before he immerses himself in ‘Kamal Aur Meena’, his passion project chronicling the legendary romance between filmmaker Kamal Amrohi and actress Meena Kumari.
Tentatively titled ‘Ikka,’ this film, however, is not an adaptation of the Hollywood vigilante action thriller, Death Sentence (2007), as is being speculated. Sources say Netflix initially explored adapting the Kevin Bacon starrer but ultimately shelved the idea after neither Sunny nor Malhotra were fully convinced by the script. They are now going ahead with an original script designed to showcase Sunny in a fresh, unconventional role. Shooting is scheduled to begin next month in Mumbai.
Meanwhile, Sunny is in the midst of a busy shooting schedule. He is currently filming for ‘Border 2’, which is slated to hit cinemas on the Republic Day weekend next year. He also has Nitesh Tiwari’s ‘Ramayana’ and Rajkumar Santoshi’s ‘Lahore 1947’ scheduled for theatrical release in 2026. Additionally, he's also in talks with Excel Entertainment for a big-budget action thriller, which, if all goes well, will go into production early next year.
As for Akshaye, he is currently shooting for Aditya Dhar’s ‘Dhurandhar’, slated to hit cinemas on December 5. He will follow that up with ‘Mahakali’, the next film in the Prasanth Varma Cinematic Universe, set for release in 2026. Khanna was last seen playing Mughal emperor Aurangzeb in Maddock Films' historical epic, ‘Chhaava’.
