Exclusive: No rift between Rohit Shetty and Akshay Kumar over Sooryavanshi release

And for all those Bollywood voyeurs who have been spitefully rubbing their hands in glee and hoping for news of trouble from the sets of Rohit Shetty’s cop drama Sooryavanshi, PeepingMoon.com has discouraging information. It comes directly from Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad where Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif are engaged in shooting the remake of Tip Tip Barsa Paani for Rohit’s film.

All is well in paradise. There is no disagreement between the mercurial filmmaker and his superstar lead actor. No bitterness over any misunderstanding. Detractors of both Rohit and Akshay tried to spread rumours about Sooryavanshi being split down the middle. This was after Rohit and Salman Khan went on social media to declare that Sooryavanshi and the latter’s Inshallah would not clash on Eid 2020 because Rohit had changed his release date to March 27.

Bollywood’s gossip mills went on overdrive to question why Akshay had not also tweeted about this change of date and suggested that the actor was displeased with Rohit’s action. And that he was now unhappy about completing Sooryavanshi. The rumour viciously spread, its flame fanned by more dirt from the gutter press, until fans of Rohit’s cop universe films Singham and Simmba began to fear for the fate of Sooryavanshi. What was worse was that adding to this drama were Akshay’s fan clubs which began to mercilessly troll Rohit.

All speculation was put to rest last evening. Akshay tweeted about the “negative trends” being done by “people dearest to me” whose “angst I understand”. The actor requested them “with folded hands” to desist from such activity. He said he had taken up Sooryavanshi with a “very positive outlook” and wanted to continue making and releasing the film the same way. The actor’s tweet silenced the din and clamour on Sooryavanshi immediately.

A source from Rohit’s set said that there was never any disruption to the shooting or any misunderstanding between the director and actor. “Rohit is a great guy and Akshay gets on with him wonderfully. They have a healthy respect for each other. The two had never worked together until Akshay handsomely agreed to perform a dangerous fire stunt for Rohit’s Khatron Ke Khiladi 9 in March that the filmmaker directed himself. After that, they could not wait to begin Sooryavanshi. The shoot is on schedule and going smoothly. Both Rohit and Akshay know they have a great film and it does not matter whether Sooryavanshi releases on Eid or Holi or Republic Day – fans of the filmmaker and actor are in store of a treat,” the source added.
