Shivaji Satam aka ACP Pradyuman says team CID wasn’t ‘officially informed’ about show going off air

Shivaji Satam, who played ACP Pradyuman in the crime drama CID, appears to have been unaware of Sony Entertainment Channel’s decision to take the television series off air. In an interview with a leading daily, Satam said that the team has filmed around four episodes but he isn’t sure whether they will be aired. "Now that the channel has decided to abruptly end the show, I don’t know if they will even be aired,” Satam told the daily.

On Tuesday, Sony Entertainment Channel announced that CID, the longest running investigative series on Indian television, will take an intermittent break starting October 28. The last episode of the show will be aired on October 27. The news shocked fans as much as it did Satam.

“Everyone is equally stunned by the news. I don’t know if the channel will want us back. We weren’t even officially informed that it's going off air,” Satam told the daily, adding, “CID has become a part of our lives. It is like someone has cut off an organ from our body.”

Satam is currently shooting for a Marathi film near Pune and told the daily that he will discuss the matter with the team upon his return to Mumbai after a week.

Meanwhile, BP Singh, creator, producer and director of CID, told the daily that the show might return within a few months. "We will propose and the channel will decide in what format it will return. It may not be episodic anymore. The cast too will be decided depending on their decision. Though we have a strong fanbase, we are now competing with the web series. The most crucial thing is the budget which will not be as much as before,” he said.

CID first aired on Sony TV in 1997 – it is about a team of detectives working for the Crime Investigation Department (CID) in Mumbai. Their main aim is to unravel murder mysteries. Five characters – Senior Inspector Abhijeet, Senior Inspector Daya, inspector Fredericks, Dr. Salunkhe and ACP (Assistant Commissioner of Police) Pradyuman, of course, have become iconic over the years.
