Ayushmann Khurrana has found his leading ladies for ‘Pati Patni Aur Woh 2.’ While Sara Ali Khan is confirmed, PeepingMoon.com has learned that Wamiqa Gabbi has been finalized as the second female lead.
Known for her standout performances in ‘Jubilee’ and ‘Baby John,’ Wamiqa will play the “patni” (wife) in this quirky comic caper, pitted against Sara who is the girlfriend, referred to as the “woh” in the title. Ayushmann steps into the shoes of Kartik Aaryan to play a middle-class man whose attempt to juggle marital expectations and an extramarital temptation spirals into chaos. According to sources, the makers were looking for “fresh romantic pairings with proven comic timing” to inject new energy into the franchise and found the triangular dynamic of Ayushmann-Wamiqa-Sara perfect. They take on the roles originally played by Kartik, Bhumi Pednekar, and Ananya Panday, respectively, in the 2019 hit film.
Mudassar Aziz returns to direct the sequel but, this time, charts a bold new course, diverging significantly from its predecessor — particularly the reason the original cast is not returning. While ‘Pati, Patni Aur Woh’ was the remake of the 1978 film of the same name, the sequel will present an original story, told largely from women’s standpoint. It will not be a typical, formulaic continuation of the first part but will explore a new narrative while keeping the essence of the original. Produced by Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series and Juno Chopra’s B.R. Studios, this project is scheduled to go on floors in August, with plans to wrap it up in a two-month start-to-finish schedule.
Ayushmann will then shift focus to promoting his Diwali release, ‘Thama,’ the latest in Dinesh Vijan's Horror-Comedy Universe. Following this, he is set to star in Sooraj Barjatya’s romantic family drama alongside Sharvari. Wamiqa, meanwhile, continues to build an impressive portfolio. Her upcoming projects include ‘Bhoot Bangla’ with Akshay Kumar, ‘Dil Ka Darwaza Khol Na Darling’ alongside Siddhant Chaturvedi, and ‘Goodachari 2’ with Adivi Sesh. She is also doing Raj & DK’s Netflix series ‘Rakt Brahmand,’ though production of that show has been indefinitely delayed. Sara, on the other hand, is gearing up for the release of Anurag Basu’s ‘Metro… In Dino’ this month. She reunites with Ayushmann in Dharma Productions’ spy comedy, which is already wrapped and is expected to hit theatres by the end of the year.
