Vijay Deverakonda’s foundation raises Rs 1.7 crore amid lockdown, shuts down operations after helping middle-class families

Back in April South superstar Vijay Deverakonda had made an important announcement regarding his initiative The Deverakonda Foundation to help maximum families amid the COVID-19 crisis. He had even posted an 11-minute video clip in which the actor assured that he will provide employment opportunities and take care of the immediate requirements such as groceries and medicine through his foundation. He also revealed that he had started a project in April 2019 and wanted to help 50 boys and girls with employment opportunities.

Now, recent reports state that the foundation has raised around Rs 1.7 crore and benefited over 17,000 households. For the uninformed, announcing the Middle-Class Fund, Vijay has said he set aside Rs 25 lakh from his savings to launch the initiative and later had asked his celebrity friends and citizens to donate. Now, 36 days since its launch, the foundation has raised Rs. 1.7 crore. Reports further state that it was confirmed on Friday that initiative is being shut down because businesses are slowly resuming in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. As per the statement, 535 volunteers joined The Deverakonda Foundation to help thousands of families and 17,723 families and 58,808 people were benefited from the fund.
