PeepingMoon 2022: Alia Bhatt, Tabu, Kareena Kapoor Khan to Kiara Advani, Janhvi Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur, make way for queens of this year

2022 was a celebration of talent. After 2 dull years, theatres were revived by the stars of the country. Providing unfiltered entertainment through a diverse range of films, they brought back the lively atmosphere in theatres. From veterans to youngsters, actresses ruled cinema halls and received claps and whistles for quality work and successful experiments. 

From Alia Bhatt's poetic performance in Gangubai Kathiawadi, Kiara Advani's emotionally rich act in Jug Jugg Jeeyo to Tabu's spectacular acting fest in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, it was the year of Bollywood queens and they didn't disappoint. 

As we begin to bid adieu to the year, let's take out a moment to appreciate phenomenal performances by our female actors in films released in theatres over these 12 months.

Bhumi Pednekar- Badhaai Do

Bhumi Pednekar had a strong command over her character Sumi in Badhaai Do. Being a dependable actor as always, she took the film a notch above with her performance which was fun and mature in equal measures.

Alia Bhatt-Gangubai Kathiawadi

The Indian audience had many apprehensions when Alia Bhatt was confirmed for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Gangubai Kathiawadi. With the film's release, she proved naysayers wrong. In the titular role, playing with her expressive eyes, Alia pierced straight into the heart with her interpretation of a prostitute turned social activist. She was nothing but poetry in motion in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's world. 

Tabu- Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2

Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 clearly belonged to Tabu. Taking her own bar of brilliance way higher, the actress left many stunned by showing a new facet of her talent in the film. Killing us a million times with her eyes and body language, the actress' stupendous performance shall be remembered for centuries. 

Kiara Advani-Jug Jugg Jeeyo

Kiara Advani, the current golden girl of Bollywood, did complete justice to the role of Naina in Jug Jugg Jeeyo. Her confrontation scene with Varun Dhawan shall be remembered for several decades. She was one of the strongest and most impactful actors in the film. 

Janhvi Kapoor- Mili

2022 was Janhvi Kapoor's year to showcase her acting prowess. Giving a befitting reply to trolls and haters through her work, the actress delivered a knockout performance in Mili. She was a true revelation in the film. 

Mrunal Thakur-Sita Ramam

Mrunal Thakur ventured into Telugu cinema with Sita Ramam. As Sita Mahalakshmi, the actress added grace, beauty, and elegance and displayed her fine acting talent opposite Dulquer Salmaan. Mrunal wore the character like her second skin. 

Kareena Kapoor Khan-Laal Singh Chaddha

How much did we miss Kareena Kapoor Khan on the big screen? The actress played the role of Rupa in Laal Singh Chaddha. Having stepped into possibly the complex and critical role of Rupa, originally named Jenny in Forrest Gump, she held the film strongly with her performance.

Rashmika Mandanna-Goodbye

Rashmika Mandanna's Hindi debut Goodbye featured her in the role of Tara. Standing her own ground in a film starring legendary actors like Amitabh Bachchan and Neena Gupta, she made her presence felt with a nuanced performance. 

Shefali Shah-Doctor G

Shefali Shah played Dr. Nandini in Doctor G. She was the star performer in the film along with Sheeba Chadha. The posture of authority, responsibility and ethics that she carried throughout Doctor G cannot be missed. When the film is still gasping for oxygen, her presence assured everything would be fine.  

Neena Gupta-Uunchai

There's nobody who dislikes Neena Gupta's work. She came across as a breath of fresh air in Uunchai. Her effortlessly on-screen was something everyone craved for and the Sooraj Barjatya film exactly did that.
