You’re progressive in one way and you’re still making that f**king backwards story: Peter Dinklage slams Disney's live-action Snow White remake

Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage has slammed Disney for planning to reboot its animated classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs into live-action starring Rachel Zegler, Gal Gadot and Andrew Burnap. Dinklage has lashed out at the mega studio for rehashing a problematic story which depicts dwarfs in a negative light, being ostracised and living in a cave. However, the treatment of the story by Disney is yet unknown.

Dinklage, who is promoting his upcoming film Cyrano, told podcast host Marc Maron in an interview, “I was a little taken aback when they were very proud to cast a Latina actress as Snow White. You’re still telling the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Take a step back and look at what you’re doing there. It makes no sense to me.”

Stating that maybe his attempt at speaking for his community has not been ‘loud’ enough on, Dinklage further added, “You’re progressive in one way and you’re still making that f**king backwards story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together, what the f**k are you doing man? Have I done nothing to advance the cause from my soapbox? I guess I’m not loud enough. I don't know which studio that is, but they were so proud of it. All love and respect to the actress and all the people who thought they were doing the right thing. But I'm just like, what are you doing?"

However, he did maintain that he is not completely against the story itself and said that it shouldn’t be shelved but only the problematic parts need to be handled the right way and said, “If you tell the story of Snow White with the most f---ed up, cool, or progressive spin on it? Let's do it. All in.”

The new reboot will feature original music by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul and is being directed by Marc Webb.
