On Sunday, January 9, the Golden Globes Awards for the year took place without much fanfare. One of the reasons was the spike in COVID-19 cases across the globe. Another reason for the Golden Globes being held privately was the controversy around Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA). In the past, HFPA was called out for issues such as diversity and ethics. According to reports, many celebrities decided to not attend the event due to this. Also, NBC reportedly declared that they would not broadcast the Golden Globes Awards this year.
At Golden Globes Awards, Steven Spielberg's remake of West Side Story took home top honours. The Power of the Dog, Succession and Squid Game were popular choices this year. Andrew Garfield, Jeremy Strong were among those who bagged major awards.
