Cruella’s Emma Stone says ‘The Little Mermaid’ villain Ursula should get her own live-action origin film; is Disney listening?

Oscar-winning actor Emma Stone, who portrays iconic villain Cruella de Vil in Disney’s new origin film Cruella, has shared that she would like to see a big-screen origin film on Disney villain Ursula who featured in The Little Mermaid.

In an interview with an online portal, the cast of Cruella spoke about which other villainous characters should get their own film. Emma said that it would be interesting to see Ursula, who will be played by Melissa McCarthy in the upcoming live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid, headline her own film. She said, “She’s an octopus and the world you would get to live in, like Ursula’s parents and what happened there. You’ve never really seen a non-human Disney villain be explored in that way.”

Emma Thompson, who played Baroness von Hellman in Cruella also joined in the conversation and cracked a joke on Ursula’s trauma saying that the character probably experienced an octopus’ worst nightmare and said, “The parents keep giving her a shirt that only has four arms. They really mess her up with that from a very early age, so she's constantly trying to fit two arms into each hole. That would really mess you up, wouldn't it?"

Kirby Howell-Baptiste, who plays Anita Tattletale Darling in Cruella also agreed to the lead stars that Ursula definitely needed her own film. She said, “I gotta know how Ursula came to be. Like, why is she so damn mean? But also I know that she's misunderstood." On the other hand, she also said that her second choice would be Scar from The Lion King. Talking about Scar, Kirby said, “I think Scar has some deep-seated issues, and obviously his brother was clearly the favourite. He's not wrong on some things.” On the other hand, Joel Fry, who plays Jasper, said Jafar from Aladdin and Paul Walter Hauser, who plays Horace Badun, cracked that he would be interested to see Daron Aronofsky’s take on Lilo and Stitch.
