Grey's Anatomy season 17 to orbit around Coronavirus pandemic

The world is majorly affected by the novel COVID-19 pandemic. Amid this, doctors and medical researchers are leaving no stone unturned to win the battle by discovering the vaccine. In the light of the pandemic, the makers of ABC's popular and long-running show Grey's Anatomy are planning to incorporate the current scenario in their script. The executive producer of the medical show, Krista Vernoff, during a panel discussion held recently, announced the same and told the writers of the show are currently talking to doctors who are sharing their experiences with them.

"There’s no way to be a long-running medical show and not do the medical story of our lifetimes. Every year, we have doctors come and tell us their stories, and usually they’re telling their funniest or craziest stories. This year, it has felt more like therapy," she told at the panel discussion.

Krista further added that the writers of the show were the first ones with whom the doctors spoke about the pandemic. She said that they were literally shaking and trying hard no to cry while talking about the war-like situation. "The doctors come in and we’re the first people they’re talking to about these types of experiences they’re having. They are literally shaking and trying not to cry, they’re pale, and they’re talking about it as war — a war that they were not trained for. And that’s been one of our big conversations about Owen, is that he’s actually trained for this in a way that most of the other doctors aren’t," she said.

Saying it was painful to hear about the sufferings of patients and medical staff, Krista added, "I feel like our show has an opportunity and a responsibility to tell some of those stories." The shooting of Grey's Anatomy hasn't started as of now.
