PeepingMoon Exclusive: Siddharth Anand and Sujoy Ghosh’s ‘King’ now a full-fledged Shah Rukh Khan film, with Suhana Khan in parallel lead

After months of speculation and unconfirmed reports, PeepingMoon.com can now confidently say that Shah Rukh Khan has locked his next project. The global superstar is reuniting with his Pathaan director, Siddharth Anand, for an action thriller slated to be directed by Sujoy Ghosh, best known for his Kahaani franchise. The film, tentatively titled King, will be SRK's next endeavor following his three consecutive blockbusters last year that collectively amassed over 2,600 crores worldwide at the box office.

Shah Rukh will star alongside his daughter Suhana Khan in this Marflix production, launching Suhana to the big-screen following her remarkable acting debut with Zoya Akhtar's Netflix adaptation of The Archies. Contrary to rumours, SRK and Suhana are not playing father and daughter, nor does SRK feature just in an extended cameo role. The Jawan actor plays a full-fledged role, carrying the film entirely on his shoulders. The project is currently in the prep stage and will be shot on a massive scale in India and abroad.

“The SRK-Suhana film has undergone multiple rewrites and polishing in the past few months. The project was earlier intended to be a mega theatrical debut vehicle for Suhana, with SRK merely playing a cameo, much like he did in Alia Bhatt's Dear Zindagi. But the script has now been altered, turning it into a proper Shah Rukh Khan film, with Suhana playing a parallel lead alongside him,” a source said, adding that Siddharth and Sujoy have also scaled up the production budget as SRK takes center stage in the story.

The plot details are currently a secret, but we heard SRK plays a mentor to Suhana’s character, who finds herself in perilous circumstances. King is billed as an unadulterated, rural action thriller with high emotional stakes that will provide viewers with an exciting, edge-of-the-seat cinematic experience. Sujoy Ghosh, known for helming critically-acclaimed and commercially-successful thrillers like Kahaani, Badla, and Jaane Jaan, will direct the film, while Siddharth Anand will oversee the action sequences. The War director has apparently already started designing world-class action blocks that can compete with international standards.

Despite being in the action space, King is believed to be very different from SRK's last-year blockbusters, Pathaan and Jawan. Sujoy is currently fine-tuning the script and will begin pre-production next month, hoping to take it off the ground in August or September. The tentative release is set for the second half of 2025. Stay tuned to PeepingMoon.com as we bring one more SRK Exclusive very soon!
