'Sabyasachi x H&M' gets sold out within minutes of its launch; Diet Sabya & netizens slam the collection by terming it as 'embarrassing & underwhelming'

It all started when legendary Indian fashion designer Sabyasachi Mukerjee announced the launch date of his much-anticipated collaboration with Swedish multinational clothing retail company H&M. Sabyasachi’s recent collaboration with H&M soon raised eyebrows, some for the right reasons, some for the wrong ones.

And before we knew, the self-proclaimed fashion police page of Instagram - Diet Sabya - was sharing views on the collection and its campaigns through people. However, after all of it, the collection got sold out within minutes of its launch. Well, the power of social media, maybe!

THE SLAMMING

The collection, which debuts online and in select stores on 12 August (today), has been slammed by social media users for being too expensive. Many were unimpressed by the designer’s new collection. Internet users have called out Sabyasachi for his inflated costs, saying that the new clothes look “dated" and "dull”, while others have reacted with shock at the pricing of the collection. One particular saree has specifically been the target of comments. Many users pointed out that the design and print of the saree reminded them of their grandmother’s clothes.

THE MEMES

The new collection has also sparked off a series of memes, with people finding much to laugh over the designer’s version of everyday wear. The pret collection with H&M, gave the Sabyasachi label an opportunity to spread its aesthetic to a wider audience in India and worldwide, however, everyone was disappointed to see half baked designs and lazy collection. Memes soon took over and well, we know what happens next - trolling.

THE DIET SABYA DEBATE - GOOD & BAD

While several people were busy slamming the collection and Sabya's 'oh so famous' collaboration, a user asked everyone one to keep calm and cheer for the designer as it was a big moment for India and Indian designers. The user mentioned how finally, people will not just see 'MANUFACTURED IN INDIA' but 'DESIGNED IN INDIA'. The user also called out all the people who were behaving like the fashion police without appreciating the Indian designer for achieving the unachievable. Even Diet Sabya, the Indian version of Diet Prada, but named after Sabyasachi, wasn’t too fond of the collection. It shared a post of the consensus of its readers - and it wasn’t too positive.

BIG LOVE

This evening, Sabyasachi added another campaign for his collection with H&M for accessories. Sharing several photos of models wearing the new range of accessories, the designer highlighted the importance of inlusivuty and 'love is love'. Sabya himself featured in one of the photos with model Vijendra Bhardwaj

AND THEN THEY WERE *SOLD OUT*

Jo dikhta hai, wahi bikta hai! Isn't it? Well, Sabyasachi proved it right! The Sabyasachi x H&M collection was sold out within minutes of being launched. Some users even claimed that the collection in countries like UK, got sold out in a minute. Well, every publicity is good publicity, we guess, at least in this case.
