Vivek Agnihotri reacts to FIRs against The Bengal Files: ‘Gopal Mukherjee was a hero’

Director Vivek Agnihotri’s upcoming film The Bengal Files has been mired in controversies since the trailer launch. After the event in Kolkata, the uproar over this film increased and several FIRs have been registered against the director. One of these complaints has been filed by Gopal Mukherjee’s grandson Shantanu Mukherjee. He alleges that his grandfather’s image has been shown poorly in the film.

Regarding Gopal Mukherjee, who is considered a warrior who protected Hindus in the 1946 riots, Shantanu said that the film misrepresents his personality. To this, Vivek Agnihotri responded in a conversation with news agency ANI. He said , “No one has seen the film yet. Guessing is being done without seeing it. I spoke to Shantanu Mukherjee on the phone, but now the matter has become legal, so we will also respond legally.”

Vivek clearly said that in his eyes Gopal Mukherjee was a hero and he has been shown in the same form in the film. The director said , “Very few people knew about him, but after this film the whole country will recognize him as a brave warrior. I guarantee that after the release of the film every child will consider him a hero.” Along with this, Vivek also took a dig at the political conditions of Bengal. He said, “Everyone here lives under pressure and says what they are told. But after watching the film everyone will be happy.”

Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumar and Pallavi Joshi will be seen in lead roles in the film The Bengal Files. The film will be released in theaters on 5 September 2025.
