Taslima Nasreen calls surrogate children 'readymade babies', clarifies her remarks were not aimed at Priyanka Chopra-Nick Jonas

Hours after Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Nick Jonas announced the arrival of their first child through surrogacy, author Taslima Nasreen's tweet found itself in the eye of the storm. Though she didn't name the star couple, netizens were quick to assume that the tweet on surrogacy was an indirect dig at them.

Taslima, after receiving much backlash for her 'different opinion' on surrogacy, clarified that her tweet had nothing to do with Priyanka and Nick. On Sunday, she tweeted, "My surrogacy tweets are about my different opinions on surrogacy. Nothing to do with Priyanka-Nick. I love the couple."

On January 22, Taslima wrote on Twitter, "How do those mothers feel when they get their readymade babies through surrogacy? Do they have the same feelings for the babies like the mothers who give birth to the babies?" In another tweet, she added, "Surrogacy is possible because there are poor women. Rich people always want the existence of poverty in the society for their own interests. If you badly need to raise a child, adopt a homeless one. Children must inherit your traits---it is just a selfish narcissistic ego."

Surrogacy is a process in which the egg is fertilised by the sperm of the donors and the embryo is then planted in the womb of the surrogate mother.
