‘Let your child fly freely,’ says R Madhavan as he and wife Sarita move to Dubai for son Vedaant’s Olympics prep in swimming

R Madhavan’s son Vedaant unlike other star kids has no starry dreams and stays away from the showbiz. The 16-year-old is a national swimming champion, who recently won seven medals while representing Maharashtra at the 47th Junior National Aquatic Championships 2021 in Bengaluru at the Basavanagudi Aquatic Centre. Now, he is all set to represent the country at the next Olympics for which he is getting ample support from his parents Madhavan and Sarita, who have moved to Dubai for his training from Mumbai.

In a recent interview with an online portal, Madhavan revealed that he and his wife have moved base and are with Vedaant in Dubai for practice as sadly, there are no Olympic pools available in India at the moment due to the coronavirus pandemic. Madhavan said, “The larger swimming pools in Mumbai are either closed because of Covid or out of bounds. We are here with Vedaant in Dubai where he has access to large pools. He’s working towards the Olympics, and Sarita and I are right by his side.”

The actor was also asked whether he wanted his son to follow his career path and he denied it and said, “Never! My wife Sarita and I went along with whatever our son wanted to do in his life. He’s been winning swimming championships all across the world and making us very proud. Let your child fly freely. Don’t stop him or her from pursuing any career. I’ve no regrets about Vedaant choosing not to be an actor. His chosen vocation is far more important to me than my own career. I’ll do what it takes to take him where he wants to go in life.”

Meanwhile on the work front, Madhavan's web series Decoupled has released on Netflix and earned him rave reviews for his performance.
