Shahid Kapoor's and Kiara Advani's Kabir Singh, which had Shahid play a role that goes through a self-destructive phase, had earned great numbers at the box office. Kabir Singh was the Hindi remake of Telugu film Arjun Reddy that released in 2017. On June 21, the film completed a year. Both Shahid and Kiara shared anniversary messages for their film on Instagram. Along with love from the audience, Kabir Singh had also received a lot of hatred for the portrayal of a violent, misogynist character but despite that, the film was a hit.
On its 1 year anniversary, Shahid shared a few BTS moments from Kabir Singh and wrote, "To all those who gave so much overwhelming love to such a complex, conflicted character. Thank you. #kabirsingh was never just a film to me.. it was an emotional arc that was raw.. bare.. unabashed .. honest .. fearless .. REAL!!"
