Zero: Katrina intends to play a character at some point that requires enough research, just as much Anushka did for Aafia

Although Katrina Kaif is of the opinion that her character Babita Kumari is “apt” for her in her upcoming film Zero, it is true that she intended to play co-star Anushka Sharma’s role in the film, as mentioned by the latter during an interview with a leading daily. Zero, directed by Aanand L Rai, casts Shah Rukh Khan in the lead role while Anushka plays a cerebral palsy patient Aafia Bhinder.

Asked whether she still desires she had played Aafia in Zero, Katrina told the daily that at present, she is at peace with her character of a glamorous actress in Zero. However, Katrina, at some point intends to do a role that requires intense research - as much as Anushka had to do before signing up as Aafia for Zero. Katrina, thus, added that Anushka had a wonderful time filming Zero.

“What happens is that we go through a journey in life where different things appeal to us at different times. At present, I feel my character, Babita Kumari, is apt for me. However, at some point in my life, I would love to play a character that requires me to do the kind of research and work with a team that Anushka did for Aafia. It was a wonderful experience for her,” Katrina told the daily.

Aanand, however, Katrina added was more than sure that she was perfect for the role of Babita in Zero. Although Katrina admitted that in the beginning, she wasn’t quite sure of Aanand’s perception of her character but understood while filming that Babita’s role was a tough nut to crack. It was complex enough, in Katrina’s words.

“Aanand sir was convinced that I should play Babita. In the end, I followed his conviction and vision. Initially, I didn’t see it as he saw it. Over a period of time, I understood the character and realised that it was a lot more complex. So, it was also a journey of discovery,” Katrina added.

In Zero, Katrina will also appear in a special dance number Husn Parcham – the teaser of which released on Monday to severe acclaim. Zero casts Shah Rukh Khan as a vertically-challenged man and is scheduled to release on December 21.
