In December 2024, PeepingMoon.com had exclusively reported that Netflix India is developing a period action-creature film with ‘Gully Boy’ star Siddhant Chaturvedi in the lead. The ambitious project has gained significant momentum with Bollywood superstar Ajay Devgn reportedly coming on board as its producer.
Devgn was initially approached to play the parallel lead alongside Chaturvedi, but he declined, choosing to remain focused on theatrical releases rather than venturing into OTT projects. However, the script and its innovative premise so impressed him that he decided to produce the film under his own banner, Devgn Films.
The parallel lead will now be played by Mohit Raina, known for his acclaimed performances in ‘Mumbai Diaries’ and ‘Kaafir.’ Meanwhile, Devgn’s involvement as producer has elevated the project’s scope, positioning it as one of Netflix India’s most ambitious originals in the works.
Set against the backdrop of a real-life event in 1945, this yet-untitled film promises to blend historical drama with action and creature-based thrills. Neha Sharma, who wrote Abhishek Sharma's ‘Tere Bin Laden: Dead or Alive’ (2016) and ‘The Zoya Factor’ (2019), makes her directorial debut with this film. Shooting is scheduled to commence in October.
This marks Devgn’s second production for Netflix following ‘Tribhanga: Tedhi Medhi Crazy’ (2021), starring Kajol, Mithila Palkar, and Tanvi Azmi in lead roles. Devgn has also produced Disney+ Hotstar shows like ‘The Trial’ and ‘The Great Indian Murder’. His upcoming productions include a horror-comedy starring his nephew Aaman Devgan and ‘Shaitaan 2,’ which is eyeing a mid-2026 production.
