Kapil Sharma’s fight and ire against defamatory articles written about him by the media has taken an ugly turn. He has sent a legal notice to a digital portal and the journalist working in it for writing defamatory articles about him. He is also seeking Rs 100 crore in damages.

Last month the actor-comedian had filed a police complaint against the journalist and now he has slapped him with a legal notice. Sharma claims that journalist Vicky Lalwani, who is working published “false, malicious, fraudulent articles” on their digital portal which in turn tarnished the actor’s image.

Kapil’s lawyer, Tanveer Nizam said in a statement, “In view of the articles by Lalwani on Spotboye to willfully defame my client, we have sent them a legal notice to publicly apologize within seven days failing which we will institute civil and criminal proceedings against both.” He also said that they are claiming damages, “to the tune of Rs One Hundred Crore to be deposited in National Defence Fund.” Sharma has also asked the journalist to tender in an “unconditional public apology” within seven days of receiving the legal notice.

However, Lalwani told a media agency that he has not received any legal notice from Sharma or his lawyers. Kapil had alleged that Lalwani under the “guise of journalism” has been publishing defamatory articles on him and has been in cahoots with his former associates since March 18, 2017.

For the uninitiated, Kapil hurled abuses on Twitter against a section of media. He allegedly accused them of posting fake news about him and that someone paid money to journalists to malign his reputation. Further, the actor tuned comedian filed a complaint against his ex-managers and creative directors Preeti and Neeti Simoes. He also accused them of trying to extort Rs 25 lakhs from him in order to not give personal information about him to media.

Kapil’s rants divided the public on Twitter. While some supported the actor there were quite a few who did not like language that the actor used on the social media site. His phone conversation with the journalist also went viral where he was heard hurling uncouth abuses to the senior journalist.
