Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathiawadi has a great first week at the box office; Amitabh Bachchan’s Jhund off to a slow start

After almost two years of lockdown, the theatres have opened with two biggies plying in cinema halls. Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathiawadi and Amitabh Bachchan’s Jhund are vying for audience’s attention at the box office and both the films are doing good business.

Alia’s Gangubai Kathiawadi, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali is doing a roaring business at the box office. It commences the second week of release on a strong note, despite facing stiff competition from Robert Pattinson’s The Batman. It notched up Rs 73.94 crore by the end of the first week. The film also stars Ajay Devgn, Shantanu Maheshwari, Seema Pahwa, Vijay Raaz, Jim Sarbh and Indira Tiwari.

On the other hand, Amitabh’s highly-anticipated sports film Jhund is off to a slow start but with the rave reviews that it has garnered it will surely pick up in the days to come. The film earned Rs 1.50 crores on its first day of release. Nagraj Manjule's directorial garners strong positive sentiments and healthy word of mouth which will definitely see it raking in the moolah at the box office.

Jhund also stars Rinku Rajguru and Akash Thosar.
