“It’s trippy”: Saif raves about Sacred Games which will be a 4-part series

The excitement is palpable. Saif Ali Khan, who makes his digital debut with the edgy Sacred Games, is gung-ho about the upcoming series. Directed by Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane, the first teaser of the web series has already triggered huge interest.

With Sacred Games set to stream in July, Saif reveals that the show, based on Vikram Chandra’s bestselling book, will be made in four parts. Shooting for the next season will begin in September. The thrill will mount as each season will have eight episodes, which brings the total to 32 episodes.

Saif calls the experience of shooting for the series “trippy” as the format allowed them to shoot at unexpected places in the city. They filmed live at locations across cinematic Mumbai. He points out, “I’m hoping people see a lot of locations in Sacred Games which no film could show because we could get in there with our equipment.”

The Nawab of Pataudi even lived a double life of sorts, staying at the Punjab Society in Mumbai. In order to get under the skin of his Sikh cop character, he actually lived in someone else’s house where he did everything that he doesn’t usually do in his life.
Calling the series a “one-on-one interaction with the viewers,” he shares that he came on board for Sacred Games as he was in search of that elusive thing called creative satisfaction.

Saif points out that there are four mediums that an actor can explore — theatre, TV, which has too much pressure because of sponsors and it has its own limitations, cinema that should be a 70mm experience although sometimes, it’s not and web series. Warming up to the newest craze he adds, “You can watch digital shows anytime anywhere — on your phone, computer, TV or even on the big screen. It’s an opportunity for an actor to showcase their talent, but it’s gotta be slightly crazy.”

According to Saif, it has to be like a graphic novel, a little more artistic than films and TV. In a nutshell, creativity not money is the answer. That is there to see!
