Gulshan Devaiah takes on a double role as Disney+ Hotstar drops the trailer of Bad Cop; Anurag Kashyap adds spice

Disney+ Hotstar drops the most awaited and entertaining trailer of the year with its twin drama series, Hotstar Specials’ Bad Cop. Produced by Fremantle India, directed by Aditya Datt and written by Rensil D’Silva the series is a complete mass entertainer and set to stream exclusively on the platform, 21st June 2024 onwards. Bad Cop has been reimagined for India by Fremantle India from RTL’s original German drama of the same name.

Versatile actor Gulshan Devaiah swiftly steps into the double role of twins Karan & Arjun, who are polar opposites and choose a path of their own. Karan, a power-packed cop and Arjun, a witty thief find their fates intertwined in the most unexpected way, altering the course of their lives forever.  Anurag Kashyap effortlessly essays the role of the deadly, manipulative and lethal, Kazbe Mama, leaving us wanting for more. A righteous cop, Harleen Sethi takes on the role of Devika. Saurabh Sachdeva and Aishwarya Sushmita star in significant roles in this thriller.

Aradhana Bhola, Managing Director, Fremantle India said, “We are excited to share our very first drama web series ‘Bad Cop’  with the audiences. Starting with the team at Disney+ Hotstar, as we shared the logline of this RTL format, everyone from writer Rensil D’Silva, to the leading actors, as well as director Aditya Datt, were struck by this intriguing yet quirky twin drama. Rensil gave us a stellar Indian re-imagination of the original story, the super talented leading cast including Gulshan, Harleen, Anurag & Saurabh brought their individual magic to the characters while pushing their boundaries as only fine actors can do & Aditya brought it all to life through his razor sharp commercial & action lens. We hope the audiences love this as much as we have loved putting it all together.”

Talking about the series, Director Aditya Datt said, “Bad Cop is like your original cult masala stories with a captivating storyline, a deadly villain and your hero in a double role. I have always been an avid watcher of twin dramas, so when I was working on Bad Cop with Rensil, Aradhana and the team at Fremantle India, we knew this element would be our hook. We have designed the action and chase sequences from scratch and have hoped to provide the audiences a larger than life viewing experience. With actors like Anurag, Gulshan, Harleen and Saurabh, we wanted to bring a sense of realism to the story. They are all actors who come from a very different school of cinema and what they bring to the table, no one else can. Audiences are in for a treat and I hope they enjoy this one.”

Talking about the character, Anurag Kashyap said, “Kazbe mama is a one of a kind villain. His aura is charismatic and lethal at the same time. I was scared and skeptical when shooting for gore scenes; as opposed to my films. Kazbe is powerful, hard-hitting and I drew traits from many of the negative characters that I had created, to prepare for this role. Fremantle India and Aditya are great collaborators and this show has brought to light a very different side of me. I had no process for Kazbe, infact I was inspired by Nana Patekar from Parinda and Irrfan Khan from Haasil. I take the script only before I shoot it and the dialogue writer would help me how to approach it. It’s cathartic for me to play a negative character and I take it all out of my system.I hope audiences enjoy me in this avatar.”

“Bad Cop is a thrilling story that doesn’t pretend to be anything else but entertaining. What drew me the most to the script was the character/s I had to play? Karan and Arjun are identical twins with very different personalities and moreover one is a cop and the other a crook. I’m very happy that Fremantle India and Disney+ Hotstar brought me this opportunity where I yet again get to play twin brothers.  Karan and Arjun although twin brothers have a very diffident outlook towards life and are dealing with very different interpersonal problems. A huge twist intertwines their destiny and I think the most challenging aspect of playing the characters started from there because I had to do a lot of action scenes, which I’d admit wasn’t easy at all. I had to physically and mentally prepare myself first.  I think playing the twins in Bad Cop has been the most amazing time I’ve had in my career until now and I really hope the masses find it fun too.” Gulshan Devaiah quoted.

Harleen Sethi said, “When I was first approached for the role of Devika, I was skeptical about taking it on, but right in the middle of the shooting schedule I realised I’m so glad I didn’t let this opportunity pass. Devika is everything a woman would want to be; she is powerful, fierce, witty, and resilient, fights for her right in her personal life and believes that she is not inferior or superior to anyone around her. She holds her own in the male-dominated police workforce and has a clear vision for what she wants. Somewhere, she is torn between balancing her career and marriage with Karan, which has a domino effect on her surroundings. I thoroughly enjoyed being directed by Aditya Datt sir and working alongside Gulshan Devaiah, Anurag Kashyap and Saurabh Sachdeva, I mean what a cast!! And the best part was I got to do action sequences, that’s always been a dream. Moreover, it was great collaborating with Disney+ Hotstar and Fremantle India.”

Bad Cop will stream from June 21st 2024 onwards on Disney+ Hotstar.
