Suriya not facing contempt of court for his NEET remark

Suriya recently kicked the hornets’ nest when he commented on the fact that students have to write exams during the pandemic. He was reacting to the news of three students who ended their life due to fear and pressure ahead of the medical entrance test. His statements on judges pronouncing judgements through video conferencing were taken as contempt of court. However, today the Madras High Court gave the actor a breather and ruled that Suriya’s comments were ‘unnecessary and unwarranted' but ruled that there would be no contempt proceedings.

The court said in its statement, “The utterances by the cine actor are unnecessary and unwarranted for being ignorant of the manner in which the entire judiciary of this state has served the interest of it's citizens he state has been serving during this pandemic. This matter in our judicious discretion does not deserve to be pursued further. We entirely agree with the opinion expressed by the learned Advocate General.” After the statement Suriya shared a statement thanking the ‘magnanimity of the Indian judiciary.’
