Ram Charan calls SS Rajamouli ‘Steven Spielberg of India’, hints at wife Upasana Konidela delivering their baby in the US as he appears on the Good Morning America show ahead of RRR’s run at the Oscars

Ram Charan has become the first Telugu actor to appear on the daytime talk show Good Morning America to promote his film RRR ahead of the Oscars next month. During the chat show he lavished praise on director SS Rajamouli and called him the ‘Steven Spielberg of India’ and also hinted that his next film is an adventure moving starring Mahesh Babu and said that Rajamouli will “make his way to the global cinema very soon, with the next film.”

When the show’s host asked Ram Charan to describe the story of RRR he said, ““It is about friendship, great brotherhood, camaraderie, the relationship between these two characters. And I think it is one of the finest writings of my director Rajamouli, he is known as the Steven Spielberg of India. Everybody calls him that, and I hope he’s going to make his way to the global cinema very soon, with the next film.”

RRR’s song Naatu Naatu has earned an Oscar nomination in the Best Original Song category after winning the Golden Globe Awards in the same category. Ram Charan, Jr.NTR and SS Rajamouli have been campaigning extensively for the film and the song in Hollywood ahead of the Academy Awards. When Ram Charan was asked about what has hooked people too Naatu Naatu, he gave a shoutout to the other nominees and said, “I loved all their songs, Rihanna’s songs and Lady Gaga’s and the Top Gun Maverick song. But it is a tribute to Indian cinema and it is the first award in 85-plus years of Indian cinema that the Academy has recognized and Golden Globes has recognized and multiple other critique awards… It is not just RRR, it is Indian cinema and Indian technicians who are being honoured. And just when we thought that in India everything we’ve achieved and we want to move to the next project, the West just showed us that it is just the beginning.”

The actor also spoke about his hectic schedule as he has been “packing and unpacking” while promoting RRR and lamented the fact that he has been away from home when his wife Upasana Konidela is expecting their first child and needs him the most. He responded to a question posed by the doctor on the show, celebrity gynecologist Jennifer Ashton who asked him about having any dad fear, the actor said, “All these years, when we didn’t plan I was pretty available for my wife and right now I’m just packing and unpacking. So doc, I’m glad I met you, I’m going to take your number and my wife is going to be in the US for a while…”

RRR after having regaled audiences across the world will be re-released in the US on March 3. It also stars Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt, Shriya Saran, Olivia Morris, Ray Stevenson, Alison Doody and others.
