‘Wanted to make it official, I am back as Superman,’ says Henry Cavill confirming his return to DC comics for upcoming films

Henry Cavill has finally laid to rest years of speculation of his returning as Superman. The actor shared a video confirming his commitment to play the DC comics superhero in future films after returning for the mid-credits scene in Dwayne Johnson starrer Black Adam, which was released on October 21, in India. This was his first time role since 2017’s Justice League.

Confirming his return, Cavill said in the video, “I wanted to make it official — I am back as Superman. Most of all, Thank you for your support and for your patience.” He added that what audiences saw in Black Adam was just a “very small taste” of things to come and its going to be bigger and better. he captioned the video as, "A very small taste of what’s to come, my friends. The dawn of hope renewed. Thank you for your patience, it will be rewarded. #Superman."

There are no details of any writers or directors attached to the film but the intention is to get Cavill to star in at least one solo Superman film, his first since 2013’s Man of Steel. He might get to star in other films as DC Films is set to get an overhaul under new Warner Bros. film bosses Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy

The Instagram video reportedly had been in the works for weeks and the timing was eyed for after Black Adam’s opening weekend, when Cavill would have already made his cameo in the film. The timing also shielded the film’s theatrical experience and kept the excitement level up. Cavill’s return to DC was fraught with difficulties as the previous DC-film boss Walter Hamada had denied it, having his own plans for a future Spiderman film. In fact, Dwayne also filmed scenes with a body double for Black Adam but when the deal struck last month, Cavill filmed his scenes in London last month.

The video also has a fun challenge for fans who are encouraged to remix the video, audio and photo assets on their IG Reels. Cavill will post his favourites on his Destinations channel in the coming days.
