TV couple Puja Banerjee and Kunal Verma booked in Goa for kidnapping and extortion of Bengali director

A shocking news has come out from Goa that has shaken the TV industry. Goa Police has registered a case against the famous television couple Puja Banerjee and Kunal Verma under serious sections. They are accused of kidnapping Bengali film director Shyam Sundar Dey and demanding a ransom of Rs 64 lakh.

According to sources, Shyam Sundar Dey and the couple were already related by family ties. Puja and Kunal grew closer to Shyam by promising him investment in business. Shyam, who has worked in more than 50 films so far, was working on a new script in Goa at that time.

The matter became serious when Shyam's wife Malvika Dey filed a complaint at Kolkata's Panache Police Station on June 12. According to the complaint, on May 31, Shyam was travelling in a rented car with his assistant when a black car stopped them on the way and they were forcibly abducted. It is claimed that Puja Banerjee and another person Piyush Kothari were also present in that car. Shyam was taken to an unknown place and tortured mentally and physically and Kunal and Puja threatened to implicate him in a drugs case.

The FIR also states that both of Shyam's mobiles were seized and his personal data was extracted. He was first kept in a hotel and then in an unknown villa on June 1. It is being said that some other people were also involved in this incident, who have not been identified yet. Shyam, under mental pressure, transferred about Rs 23 lakh to the accused between May 31 and June 3. When the matter started getting out of hand, his wife sent an email to senior police officials of Goa on June 3. After this mail, Goa Police rescued Shyam safely on June 4.

Now the case has been handed over to Calangute Police Station in Goa, where an FIR has been registered under sections of kidnapping, assault and extortion. Shyam Sundar Dey has been called to record his statement soon.

This case highlights the fraud happening in the name of relationships and investments in the entertainment industry. Such serious allegations against famous faces like Pooja Banerjee and Kunal Verma not only raise questions on law and order, but also give a severe blow to the image of the industry.
