Peeping Moon Exclusive : SS Rajamouli and Mahesh Babu on a mythical quest for Ramayana herb in ‘SSMB29’

SS Rajamouli is widely known for seamlessly blending Indian history and mythology into his spectacular cinematic spectacles. His upcoming jungle adventure with Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and Prithviraj Sukumaran, referred to as #SSMB29, is no different. PeepingMoon.com has learned that the film draws heavily from Indian mythology and centers on the mythical sanjeevani booti — a magical herb from the Ramayana.

“It is an Indiana Jones-style action adventure that follows Mahesh Babu’s character on a globe-trotting quest to find sanjeevani booti, a legendary plant believed to have the power to revive the dead,” a source revealed. “Rajamouli and his father, veteran screenwriter K.V. Vijayendra Prasad, have intricately woven elements from the Ramayana into the narrative to craft an epic and ancient saga. This film promises to surpass the scale of Rajamouli’s previous works with breathtaking action sequences and state-of-the-art visual effects.”

In the Ramayana, when Indrajit, the son of demon king Ravana, strikes down Lakshman — Lord Ram’s brother — with a powerful weapon, to save him Lord Hanuman travels to the Himalayas in search of sanjeevani booti. Unable to identify the plant, Hanuman uproots an entire section of the mountain and carries it back to Lanka to ensure Lakshman’s survival.

The plot and character details are unknown, but Rajamouli is poised to deliver a spectacle designed to captivate global audiences. The production is underway in Hyderabad following an action-packed schedule in Odisha in April. The project is slated to continue shooting through 2025 and into mid-2026, targeting a worldwide theatrical release in the summer of 2027.
