Constance Wu reveals she attempted suicide after severe Twitter backlash received over her ‘Fresh Off The Boat’ tweets

Constance Wu recently shred that she almost attempted to take her life in 2019 after she was subjected to a lot of severe social media backlash. The backlash she received was followed after her tweet on the renewal of her series Fresh Off The Boat. Now three years later and after writing a book titled Making a Scene, the actress has spoken about her mental health and the toll social media took on her, so much so that she decided to end her life after reading a few scathing DMs.

In 2019, Constance received a ton of abuse after she tweeted about the renewal of her series Fresh Off The Boat. Now, taking to Twitter she released a statement and wrote, “Hi everybody. I haven’t been on social media in almost 3 years. Tbh, I’m a little scared, but I’m dipping my toe back in to say I’m here and while I was gone I wrote a book called Making a Scene. This next part is hard to talk about…but I was afraid of coming back on social media because I almost lost my life from it: 3 years ago when I made careless tweets about the renewal of my TV show, it ignited outrage and internet shaming that got pretty severe.”

She further added, “I felt awful about what I’d said, and when a few DMs from a fellow Asian actress told me I’d become a blight on the Asian American community, I started feeling like I didn’t even deserve to live anymore. That I was a disgrace to AsAms, and they’d be better off without me. Looking back, it’s surreal that a few DMs convinced me to end my own life, but that’s what happened. Luckily, a friend found me and rushed me to the ER."

After announcing her return to social media and the news of her book, Constance also shared help line numbers for US citizens who are under depression or feel suicidal.

On the work front, the actress was last seen in Chris Pratt’s series The Terminal List.
