Illumination’s Super Mario Bros. film starring Chris Pratt is officially being delayed. It is the latest film to be pushed to 2023 as Hollywood continues to bow down to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and other related issues. The news was shared by Super Mario Bros. creator Shigeru Miyamoto via Nintendo’s official Twitter account that the film will be out next year.
Miyamoto wrote, “This is Miyamoto. After consulting with Chris-san, my partner at Illumination on the Super Mario Bros. film, we decided to move the global release to Spring 2023–April 28 in Japan and April 7 in North America. My deepest apologies but I promise it will be well worth the wait."

The film was originally set to be released on December 21 this year but has now been pushed back to 2023. The word on the film first broke out in 2018 when Nintendo officially partnered with Illumination to produce the film.
Besides Pratt the film is slated to star Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike and surprise cameos from Charles Martinet.
