What caught the attention of Harry Potter fans was the absence of J.K Rowling.

Fans were disappointed to not see her in the trailer of the reunion special and even criticised the makers of Return To Hogwarts for not inviting her. Earlier, it was being said that the makers of Return To Hogwarts were not keen on inviting Rowling to the reunion after her statements about trans people in June 2020 and the controversy swirling around them. Back then, the author was quick to react to the criticism and penned a blog defending her statements.

Harry Potter actors like Daniel and Emma came out in support of the trans community. In 2020, many fan pages dedicated to the franchise decided to distance themselves from the author for her 'transphobic' comments.
