Jeopardy host Alex Trebek succumbs to pancreatic cancer at the age of 80

One of the most popular television hosts, Alex Trebek, passed away at the age of 80 at his residence on Sunday. Known for the hit US game show Jeopardy, Alex was battling advanced pancreatic cancer since March 2019. He hosted Jeopardy for 36 years and also did shows including Double Dare, Classic Concentration, the National Geographic Bee, The Wizard of Odds and many others. 

Confirming the news of Alex's demise, Jeopardy's official Twitter handle issued a statement. "Jeopardy! is saddened to share that Alex Trebek passed away peacefully at home early this morning, surrounded by family and friends. Thank you, Alex," the tweet read.

Alex, in March 2019 announced he had advanced pancreatic cancer. In September the same year, he returned to hosting Jeopardy for the 36th season. Later, he revealed that some of his tumours had shrunk up to 50 percent and he was better. A while later, it was announced that his health has deteriorated and he went for chemotherapy once again. 

Born as George Alexander Trebek on July 22, 1940, he is survived by his wife Jean Currivan and two children. He had won the Daytime Emmy Award five times and also had a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
