Chadwick Boseman sent the entire film industry into a zone of shock and grief on August 28, 2020, after succumbing to colon cancer. After a four-year battle, the Black Panther actor passed away due to complications. Now, nearly two months later, the makers of his last film Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom released its trailer. Co-starring Viola Davis, the film will release on Netflix on December 18 this year.
Set in 1927 Chicago, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom revolves around the tension and conflict between Ma Rainey (Viola) and the white ownership of the clubs where she performed. Levee (Chadwick) is an ambitious trumpeter who aspired to make his own mark in the music scene with a contemporary spin to old-fashioned songs. Dealing with issues like race, music, relationships and the exploitation of Black recording artists, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom trailer seems promising.

Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom is based on August Wilson’s award-winning play of the same name.
