Joaquin Phoenix’s ‘Joker’ pays a tribute to late Heath Ledger’s memorable interview

Joaquin Phoenix is reaping accolades from every quarter for his portrayal of the iconic antagonist and Batman’s arch-nemesis Joker. He is touted to not only get an Oscar nomination for his performance in the film Joker but is expected to take home the coveted golden statuette as well. The film is an original spinoff and chronicles the life of Arthur Fleck before his descent into madness and becoming the Clown Prince of Crime. Directed by Todd Phillips, many thought that there would be some sort of tribute to the late Heath Ledger who set a certain benchmark in portraying Joker in Christopher Nolan’s film.

Fans expected an Easter egg in the film and by the looks of it they have actually found it. Here’s a bit of a spoiler so if you haven’t watched the film yet then do tread with caution. Towards the end of the film, Phoenix arrives on the 'Live With Murray Franklin' show and spots an old lady near the couch. He immediately walks up to her and kisses her with sheer passion surprising everyone. Now, this is the exact scene which fans are convinced is a tribute to Ledger as he did something similar in 2008, during the promotions of The Dark Knight.
