Fashion legend of Chanel Karl Lagerfeld, 85, dies after weeks of ill health

The king of luxury fashion house Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld has passed away at the age of 85. He was known as the iconic fashion legend. Karl Otto Lagerfeld was a German creative director, artist, photographer, and caricaturist living in Paris. He was the man behind the luxury brand Chanel and the one who made it this big.

The designer had been unwell for several weeks and had missed a number of fashion shows. After weeks of poor health, the fashion designer passed away. Karl emigrated to Paris as a young teenager and became a design assistant for Pierre Balmain, before working at Fendi and Chloe in the 1960s. He began his long career with Chanel in 1983, a decade after Coco Chanel died.

Karl was born in 1933 in pre-war Germany. Lagerfeld changed his original surname from Lagerfeldt, because he believed it sounded more commercial.

May his soul rest in peace.
