James Bond: Danny Boyle and Daniel Craig to team up for 007's 25th film

Academy Award winner director Danny Boyle has been roped in to direct the next James Bond film. The film’s producers made the announcement on Friday, with actor Daniel Craig reprising his role of the British fictional spy with a license to kill. James Bond is a fictional British spy also known as 007 who was created by author Ian Fleming. The author’s works have been made into numerous films over the years with some very well-known actors portraying the fictional hero on the silver screen.

The Slumdog Millionaire director will team up with his Trainspotting actor Daniel Craig for the 25th Bond film as well as with writer John Hodge who worked with Boyle on Trainspotting and is developing an original screenplay. A statement was issued by the producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli that read, “We are delighted to announce that the exceptionally talented Danny Boyle will be directing Daniel Craig in his fifth outing as James Bond in the 25th installment of the franchise. We will begin shooting Bond 25 at Pinewood Studios in December with our partners at MGM and thrilled that Universal will be our international distributor.”

Boyle had previously worked with Craig on a short film as well for the opening ceremony at the 2012 London Olympics. The actor portrayed Bond and entered the Buckingham Palace where he was greeted by Queen Elizabeth II. The production of the as yet unnamed Bond film will start on December 3, 2018, at the UK’s Pinewood Studios. The film is slated to release in autumn 2019.

MGM will release the film theatrically in the US on November 8, 2019, through its new joint venture for domestic theatrical distribution with Annapurna Pictures. Universal will release internationally commencing with a traditional earlier release in the UK on October 25, 2019. Under this arrangement, MGM will retain digital and worldwide television distribution rights.

This will be the fifth Bond film for Craig who confirmed last August that he would be returning to the franchise having previously starred in Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall and Spectre. Meanwhile Boyle’s other current projects include "All You Need is Love", a Richard Curtis-scripted film that revolves around the music of The Beatles.
