Celebrity chef Sanjeev Kapoor, one of India’s most loved culinary personalities, got candid in the latest episode of Unscripted with PeepingMoon. In a heartfelt and engaging conversation, Kapoor opened up about who his biggest critics are at home and shared the most meaningful compliment he has received in his illustrious career.
When asked who in his family is the most honest critic of his cooking and his mother, wife, or daughters, Kapoor instantly replied with a smile, “My mom is very kind towards my cooking. I think the biggest critics would be my daughters. They are not afraid to tell you the truth.” He further explained that while others often try to please or encourage him, his daughters value honesty above all. “Everyone else is usually busy trying to make you happy, and sometimes even saying things that aren’t true. But my daughters know that truth is more important. There’s a saying, ‘Sach bolo, sukhi raho,’ and they truly follow that,” he added with a laugh.
Speaking about the best compliment of his career, Sanjeev Kapoor recalled a moment that left a lasting impact on him. “There was this one chef who came up to me and said, ‘Aapne chefs ko respect dilayi hai samaj mein.’ Earlier, when the food wasn’t good, people would call the chef out and scold him. But that changed after me,” he said with humility. “That, for me, is the best compliment l, because I could do something for my community and for the profession that has given me everything.”
Over the years, Sanjeev Kapoor has not only revolutionised Indian home cooking through his iconic shows like Khana Khazana, but has also elevated the stature of chefs in society.
