PeepingMoon Exclusive: 'It's a rebirth not remake,' say Ami Mishra, Kasyap and Kunaal Vermaa on their new song Hasi Ban Gaye

Singer Ami Mishra collaborated with lyricist Kunaal Vermaa and musician Kasyap for the modern version of Hamari Adhuri Kahani's popular song Hasi Ban Gaye. The rendition released across social media on June 9.

In an exclusive interview with PeepingMoon, Ami, Kunaal and Kasyap spoke about curating Hasi Ban Gaye for the new age audience and why it is not a conventional remake of the song from Hamari Adhuri Kahani.

Excerpts from the interview:

What process went behind curating the whole rendition?

KASYAP: I was pretty nervous but also excited since it is a great song. It is a timeless song. Now that we got the opportunity, we wanted to make it sound more modern. Voh film ka part tha, yeh zyada relatable hai. I got to work with the original composer and lyricist so I wanted to make sure the soul is intact while adding my touch to it.

Kunaal: The audience will never get bored of the song. If they get a new feel and flavour, it won't harm them. I hope jis tarah film ka gana popular ho gaya, yeh bhi ho jaye. Isko ek rebirth diya hai.

Ami: I got a call for the new version of the song and was told that we'll take verses from male and female singing portions and I was excited for it.

Hasi Ban Gaye is a popular song. What prompted you to recreate it and what new inputs did you add?

Kunaal: Our song is completely different from the film's version. The lyrics are also different. We have given it a modern feel.

KASYAP: The original had a bit of Bollywoodness to it. This version is lyrically rewritten.

Remakes are often slammed but they are works of art. Will the music scenario ever change in the future?

KASYAP: This isn't like a typical remake that people are making of late; it's a new take on the song. The feel has changed and we have made it more relatable. Hopefully people will take it positively.

What’s your next project?

Ami: I will be releasing 6-7 independent projects in the future.

KASYAP:  Right now the focus is on Hasi Ban Gaye. Work never stops, there's always something to do.

Kunaal: I have some films and singles in the pipeline.
