Came into my own after Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani: Deepika Padukone on her role of Naina as the film clocks 10 years

Deepika Padukone's ability to effortlessly transition between a straightforward, no-frills approachable part and a gorgeous, self-assured one is one of her most impressive acting abilities. The actor had the chance to try both out and showcase her versatility in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, which celebrates its 10th anniversary today.

With the central theme of love and friendship, the film went on to have cash registers ringing and also set multiple trends that year – Whether it was Deepika's geek glasses or the classic cocktail blue saree from Batameez Dil, every girl aspired to be her! Director Ayan Mukerji also explained that Naina's character provided a perfect counterbalance to Bunny (Ranbir Kapoor). He said, "Deepika holds her own against Ranbir. Just like Kajol's character fell in love with Shah Rukh Khan in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, people love Ranbir because of Deepika."

Playing Naina came naturally to Deepika who related to the character and her evolution. In an earlier interview Deepika said, “I believe I came into my own after Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani because my journey in life is similar to that of my character, Naina Talwar.”

Someone who got past her reservations and shyness to embrace every moment and become an independent, confident individual, Deepika as Naina taught us much. In fact, at challenging times, we can learn a thing or two from Naina whose motto was ‘Thoda waqt do sab theek ho jayega’.
