Ravi Shastri didn’t want an actress wife! What’s he doing with Nimrat Kaur now?

Cricket and Bollywood have always made strange bedfellows. So, it comes as no surprise to be told that Ravi Shastri and Nimrat Kaur are a couple. The Team India cricket coach is 56 and the Airlift actress 36. But since when has a difference in age mattered in affairs of the heart? More than this disclosure, what comes as a bolt from the blue is that the two have been secretly dating for two years. Though she has vehemently denied this juicy rumour, Ravi is said to have been bowled over by Nimrat and is reportedly head-over-heels in love with the actress.

The couple is believed to be keeping their relationship discreet for the moment. Why, it is not known. Ravi, whose 22-year-old marriage to classical Indian dancer Ritu Singh ended in divorce in 2012, is foot loose and fancy free. They have a daughter named Aleka who is 10. Nimrat, on the other hand, is not known to have been romantically involved with anybody. Except the swashbuckling yesteryear cricketer as it now turns out. Perhaps, Ravi and Nimrat are testing the waters before taking the plunge. Though two years is a good courting period to get to know each other. Maybe they don’t want to take their relationship ahead and are now regretting the media attention and questions.

Ravi is accustomed to being in the news for dating a Bollywood actress. Way back in the 1980s, when he was the playboy of Indian cricket and had millions of girls as his fans, it was the feisty and beautiful Amrita Singh who caught the playboy all-rounder’s roving eye. The sparks flew instantly. She was the Khudgarz heroine and he the captain of the Indian team. They are reported to have painted the town red with their hot and steamy affair. Cricket aficionados will always remember the images of Dingy, as Amrita was known, cheering Ravi from the stands every time he hit the ball out of the stadium or took a wicket. However, their relationship was not destined to go ahead and Ravi is quoted as having said, “I definitely don’t want an actress wife. I am chauvinistic. Her home should be her first priority.”

But that was 30 years ago. And Amrita was too involved with her career to give it up and become a full-time wife and mother. The Ravi-Amrita affair, that made the cover of Bollywood glossy CineBlitz, had a quiet and uneventful end. Meanwhile, has Ravi Shastri changed with time? Or is he still chauvinistic and won’t take an actress wife? At 56, maybe the coach who is seeing Team India players falling in love with and marrying Bollywood actresses, is undergoing a change of heart. What about Nimrat Kaur? Has she decided to fall in pattern with his old ideas of an Indian wife and give up her Bollywood career? Is that why the pretty and talented actress has not done any film after Airlift in 2016 which is when this relationship supposedly began?
