Post mysterious death of house-help, director Sai Kabir in rehab

The mystery deepens in the case of Revolver Rani director, Sai Kabir. On January 31, Raju, his house-help of five years, fell to his death from his seventh storey Yari Road apartment. Now it emerges that Kabir was committed to rehab just hours after this unfortunate incident.

Writer-director Sai has a history of substance abuse and depression. He had apparently hit a low after one of his films, Divine Lovers was stalled. Over the past couple of years, he had become a virtual recluse and had cut off ties with all his friends and associates. He had been hit hard by his inability to find backers for his film. After spending years developing the script of Divine Lovers, it had been selected by producer Shailesh Singh in collaboration with the French Film Commission, Film France. However, he was informed that the script lacked punch. Unfortunately, this seemed to have taken the wind out of Kabir’s sails and he was unable to rework the script.

It had been reported that the house-help Raju’s death occurred around 6.30 pm on January 31. One of the residents had called the police control room, and the Versova police dispatched a team to the spot. After repeated attempts to contact Sai on the intercom and his cell phone, he finally answered the call. He reportedly came downstairs in a state of heavy intoxication. When he saw Raju's condition, he is said to have broken down. He was initially taken to the police station for questioning but was later taken to Cooper hospital for treatment instead.

Apparently, Sai requested to be taken to Masina Hospital, since he was in rehab there a few months ago. He is currently under Dr Yusuf Matcheswalla's supervision. Dr Matcheswalla has confirmed that he is treating Sai Kabir for cannabis, nicotine and alcohol abuse.
It was also revealed by Raju’s brother that Raju was under stress as he hadn’t been paid his salary for several months and was keen to visit his home.
