Lakme Fashion Week S/R 2020: Flora-fauna and glorious textiles of West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, Day 2 was home to some striking details

The second show on day two of Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2020 began with Ashdeen Lilaowala’s collection called Memories on Cloth. The hand embroidery featured the beauty of flora and fauna. The popular motifs of bows, roosters, birds and butterflies came alive on the fabrics as they flitted over the garments. Another traditional embellishment was the lace as an edging for the sacred undergarment, the sudreh worn by the Parsis. Striking indeed was the red, body-hugging dress worn with a sheer kimono. Cinched at the waist with a self-toned waist-belt holding a mini purse, the kimono reflected the line’s essential motifs, that were hand embroidered.

The House of Three that stands for Mind, Body and Soul, the brainchild of Sunak Sen Barat and Anu Shyamsunder, called their collection Kumarikandam that brought alive the glorious textiles of West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. Rajib Debnath’s label Tantajo that supports the livelihood of 450 families of master weavers, dyers and spinners, supported the chic collection. Making impressive entries on the runway was a pretty checked dress with sea life embroidery on the bodice and sheer sleeves, while a smattering of embellishments appeared on the palazzos. Social activist and actor Siddharth walked the ramp for the label in a peach kurta with playful, checked sleeves teamed with a black and white Kanjivaram Nehru jacket featuring mustard detailing on the flap pockets. The look was completed with a scarf jauntily wrapped around the neck. And the pert and pretty actor and musician Saba Azad strutted down the runway in a white Jamdaani mini with a ruffled bib interest on the bodice.
