‘Kaya Palat is a story-driven film that gave me a new challenge, it demands a strong performance,’ says Helly Shah on her big screen debut

Popular TV actress Helly Shah is making her big screen debut with film Kaya Palat and short Zibah. Kaya Palat is inspired by true story of rival mafias and is a dark thriller set in Jammu. Now, in a recent interview with an online portal, Helly spoke about what drew her to the role. Kaya Palat is directed by Shoaib Nikash Shah and also stars Rahat Kazmi, Tariq Khan, Swaroopa Ghosh, Mir Sarwar and Rohil Bhatia.

Helly told the portal, “Kaya Palat is a story-driven film that gave me a new challenge I was looking for and (it) demands a strong performance. The story is very much aimed at the international market, and we are hoping it connects with a cross-cultural audience. My character is going to be very interesting, sarcastic, witty, vulnerable and so much more.”

Helly will also be seen in Arunjit Borah’s short film Zibah that is now complete. The film is a human-rights based drama that shows a light on the cruelty faced by young children in the sub-continent. Talking about Zibah, Helly said, “Cinema is there for entertainment, but I have always believed that films have the power to highlight important social causes and make a positive change. That is what made me want to be part of this project.”

Both Kaya Palat and Zibah will release this year.
