Ayushmann Khurrana has carved a distinct space for himself in Bollywood with his choice of unconventional stories and his ability to make audiences laugh. From his debut film Vicky Donor to Bala and Dream Girl, the actor has explored different shades of comedy, bringing his own style and impeccable timing to every character. With Udta Teer, he is set to return to a genre that has given him several memorable roles.
In Vicky Donor, Ayushmann introduced audiences to his natural comic timing through the story of a sperm donor. The film tackled a subject rarely explored in mainstream Hindi cinema, using humour to make a sensitive topic accessible. He continued this journey with Nautanki Saala!, where he played a theatre artist caught in an unusual situation, and Bareilly Ki Barfi, in which his portrayal of Chirag Dubey added charm and humour to a small-town romantic comedy.
His performance in Shubh Mangal Saavdhan further showcased his ability to find comedy in an unconventional subject. Playing a man dealing with erectile dysfunction, Ayushmann balanced awkward situations with relatable emotions. In Badhaai Ho, he brought humour to a family story about an unexpected pregnancy, proving once again that he could make everyday situations entertaining
With Dream Girl, Ayushmann explored a different side of comedy. As Karamveer Singh, a man who impersonates a female caller, he impressed audiences with his voice modulation and effortless handling of misunderstandings. In Bala, he played a young man dealing with premature balding, blending humour with the insecurities surrounding appearance and social acceptance.
What connects these performances is Ayushmann's ability to build comedy around his characters rather than relying only on punchlines. His roles often draw humour from relatable situations, giving his performances a distinct identity.
With Udta Teer, Ayushmann is ready to bring another quirky entertainer to the big screen. Directed by Akash A Kaushik, the film stars Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan. Produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla and Apoorva Mehta under Dharma Productions, in collaboration with Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain of Sikhya Entertainment, Udta Teer is scheduled to release in cinemas on October 23, 2026.
