Box Office: Akshay Kumar’s ‘Mission Mangal’ and John Abraham’s ‘Batla House’ continue their golden run at the theatres

Jagan Shakti’s space drama Mission Mangal starring Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, Taapsee Pannu, Sonakshi Sinha, Sharman Joshi, Nithya Menen and Kirti Kulhari is continuing its rampage on the box office. The film became Akshay’s biggest-ever opener with earning of Rs 97.56 crore in its four-day extended weekend. In fact the film already crossed the lifetime business of Akshay’s Jolly LLB 2 (Rs 117 crore) in mere seven days and is looking to overcome lifetime business of Kesari in its week two.

Mission Mangal is based on ISRO’s Mars Orbiter Mission programme and has brought the success of the launch to celluloid in an entertaining film. It also became Akshay’s fastest film to enter the coveted Rs 100 crore club. It smashed this milestone in just five days of its release.

On the other hand, John Abraham’s film Batla House that also released on Independence Day is also doing exceptionally well at the box office. The film crossed the Rs 50 crore mark in just 5 days of its release. The film continues to hold its ground and August 15 has proved second time lucky for John whose Satyameva Jayate released last year.

Batla House has earned around Rs 4.50 crore on Wednesday thus taking its first week total to Rs 57.82 crore. The film is directed by Nikkhil Advani and also stars Mrunal Thakur.
